Troston Loch Wind Farm
Troston Loch Wind Farm is a consented project of 14 turbines (up to 150m tip height) with a planned generating capacity of 68MW. The project is on land at the Troston Estate, located around seven kilometres west of Moniaive in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The scheme could generate enough electricity to power around 40,000* homes per year.
Since taking ownership of the project in January 2024, Vantage RE Ltd has reviewed the consented development to explore ways of making it more efficient and productive.
Following this review, we are revising the project design to increase the turbine tip height. This proposed change would allow us to reduce the total number of turbines while maintaining the same level of generation. The application being prepared is for 12 turbines with a vertical tip height of up to 220m. The capacity would remain at 68MW.
The proposed community benefit would also remain in line with the recommended Scottish Government rate, which is currently £5,000 per MW installed capacity. This could provide up to £340,000 each year to support local organisations, events and community projects, for the lifetime of wind farm.
As the new proposal for the Troston Loch Wind Farm will have a generating capacity of over 50MW, the application will be made to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit (ECU) under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989.
We intend to carry out our pre-application consultation with local stakeholders at two drop-in public consultation events. The first event is planned for:
Tuesday 6th January, 3.30pm–7.30pm
Dalry Town Hall, Ayr Road, St John's Town of Dalry, DG7 3SW
Anyone unable to attend the in-person exhibitions can view the exhibition information here following the event.
If you have any questions about the project or would like to speak with one of our development team, please email TrostonLoch@Vantagere.co.uk.
*please note this figure is based on an installed capacity of 68MW at a capacity factor of 30% capacity and assuming 3,499 as the average UK household electricity consumption in kW hours based on recent statistics from Govt (DESNZ Dec 2024)
