A record breaking year for renewable energy

In 2022 a record amount of energy from renewable sources was generated in the UK.

Onshore wind farm

According to researchers, around 40% of the UK's electricity was generated from renewable energy in 2022.

The latest data from the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit’s Winter Power Tracker, also revealed that renewables generated 42TWh of electricity between 1 October 2022 and 10 February 2023, negating the need for 85TWh of gas.

Whiteside Hill onshore windfarm

  • 28.5MW  (10 x 2.85MW turbines)
  • Powering 25,000 homes annually
  • Displacement of approx.15,394 tonnes of CO2 per year compared to non-renewable fuels
  • 121.5 turbine tip height

Whiteside Hill is located 4.5 miles from the small towns of Sanquhar, Dumfries & Galloway. Constructed in 2018, Whiteside Hill is located in a mountainous and windy region with a potential 41.9% Capacity Factor. This means that the windfarm can almost match offshore capacity factors, but with less construction cost. The site efficiently harnesses the Scottish wind to generate clean reliable electricity.
